This group is called Stephen’s Media, but thankfully they’re no relation. Anyway … probably everyone who would reads my blog knows this story, as it’s been on most of the major gun blogs like Arms and the Law and Snowflakesinhell, but Clayton Cramer was forced to take down his excellent blog The Armed Citizen (one of my favorites and linked commonly in my posts) because of a ridiculous lawsuit from a group called Righthaven, which has apparently purchased the rights to sue for Stephen’s media group. The actual article he is being sued over is from the Las Vegas Review Journal.
As an author I’m not against any group defending their work, but there is such a thing as accepted use for legitimate commentary AND there is an etiquette for dealing with someone whom you believe has used too much of your content that respects the rights of others to do commentary. Before you sue you contact the entity you have a problem with and ask for the content to be taken down. If Mr. Cramer were a multi-million dollar player he would never have been sued, because he could easily defend himself (can you imagine if every media group who had their product copied immediately sued youtube?) but make no mistake … Righthaven is a predator group picking on the little guys who don’t have huge legal resources.
Anyway … following the directions here you can block all the stephen’s media websites. And I hope you do. I did. And if you go to this site you can donate to Clayton’s defense. I have.
