I was doing some late night shopping at a nearby Walmart in Littleton, Colorado, and what did I find? Several sporting type “black” semi-automatic rifles in the rifle rack. Nicely priced, too. I’ve seen plenty of .22LR semi-auto rifles at Wal Mart, but here are some .223 AR-15′s in both carbine and hunting configuration. One even has a normal capacity (30 round) magazine and telescoping stock — both nice features.
I plan on buying another rifle this summer, my daughter’s first (probably a Ruger 10-22) and Walmart will now be on my A-list of possible stores to purchase it from.
I don’t know if Walmart went through with its plan from a while back to video tape all gun purchases and etc., but I’m not as concerned about that as I am about making sure that semi-automatic modern rifles stay in the mainstream. And “mainstream” and “common use” (the latter a phrase referenced by the Heller Supreme Court case) means Walmart to most of America.

Off Road
The best book ever written!
By me, anyway.
Set against the background of the American civil war of “progressives” vs. patriotic American traditionalists and a family caught in the middle, Off Road is a journey into the uniquely American world of God, guns, big trucks … and family.

I love Walmart. However I would question the quality of the build. But, putting more AR’s in people’s hands top quality or not can be nothing but good. The more “back” riffle owners out their, there are the less likely congress will do something stupid, like try to ban them or the ammo needed to shoot out of them.
The Walmart ARs are Remington ARs, mostly.
Walmart in my area has a bushmaster carbine and sig 20 in. flat top. Good news for local hood rats that have yet to be arrested. Walmart only requires you to prove citizenship in addition to regular long rifle laws. All of my other local gun stores and vendors at local shows require a minimun age of 21. This self imposed extra 3 years gives thugs time to create a criminal record and exclude themselves from purchases. This saves my local gun stores a lot of headaches and visits from the ATF. I own 3 of these type rifles but think bad things will come from this.
A box store will generally deal with people generically and not make a personal distinction between customers; they tend to just follow corporate policy so as not to get sued.
But if you think this truly makes it easier for some class of criminal to get some kind of gun, I think that’s nuts. Criminals can get all the guns they want, and adding an arbitrary 3 years to keep otherwise legal adults from buying certain types of rifles from FFL’s will not do anything to make anyone safer or make “bad things come of this.”
It’s either legal or illegal to buy a gun from a dealership, and right now it’s legal for 18 year olds to buy these guns in most states.
