I like to play with numbers. I guess it comes from working as an accountant before I got into computers. But even a Jr. grade accountant can tell the claims made by the anti gunners about Assault Weapons don’t pass even the most basic sanity test. A Gary Kleck can go into detail, but anyone can download the FBI Uniform Crime statistics report and see the basics for him or herself.
The anti-gun groups shrilly claim that huge numbers of people and police officers are suddenly being killed by what they call “assault weapons” since the “assault weapon ban” expired in 2004.
Funny, though … this little organization called the FBI collects statistics that don’t seem to support that view. Take a look at the chart below (I have added in some calculations and rankings and sorted by the 2006 column, but other than that all data is unchanged from the FBI Uniform Crime report):
The chart above is clear:
1. Firearms were used in 68% of all murders — just a little over two thirds.2. But that means almost one third of murders were done with weapons other than firearms3. Rifles, which would include the commonly identified “assault weapons,” constituted only 4.28% of all . . . → Read More: Assault Weapons — suddenly a huge threat to society?
